Task #1 (Quick Recap)

Before we went on Spring break we worked in groups of four and each group proposed a real world case to practice trying in Mock Trial. After each group proposed their case every student cast two votes as to which cases were their top two. The result o this vote showed us the two cases we will be looking at. Results are posted below.

Task #2 (Trial & Side Assignment Reminder)

Trial Group #1 – Prosecution (People v Albert Fish)

Trial Group #2 – Defense (People v Albert Fish)

Trial Group #3 – Defense (People v Steubenville High School)

Trial Group #4- Prosecution (People v Steubenville High School)

Task #3 (Trial Prep)

If you have not yet completed the trial prep questions or writing your costa’s level questions for your case there are resources below to help you.

Assignment .doc -> Trial Prep Questions

PDF Guide -> Mr. Tylers Guide to Writing a Level 3 Costa Question

Task #4 ( Case #2)

Reminder: Both of these real world cases you have chosen as a class bring about important topics we have yet to discuss. Mental Health of the defendant and rape culture in the United States. Due to the sensitive nature of both of these topics we are going to go through each case as a class first and take Cornell notes individually. Everyone in this room needs to be aware of the facts of these cases and well as what can be learned from these cases. Today we are going to finish looking at the Steubenville High School Rape Case in its entirety.

Cornell Notes Reminder:

Task #5 ( Case #2)

Before we summarize our Cornell Notes on the Stubenville case we are going to look at the testimony of a Forensic Scientist that was involved in the case. This is a good opportunity for us all to analyze the prosecuting attorney and defense attorney questioning a witness. As we watch considering what both attorneys are doing well as well as what they  need to improve on.

Task #6

On a separate sheet of paper you are now going to write an academic paragraph about the Stubenville Case. You will be turning this paragraph in before your leave. The purpose of this paragraph is to show you understand the case, the charges, the defendants, the strengths and weaknesses of the prosecution and defense teams as well as why the court reached the verdict it did.
