Introduction to Science

Unit:

1

Unit S.M.A.R.T. Goal:

Students will plan and carry out investigations which utilize models  in order to explain the interactions between non-living objects with 85% accuracy in 3 of 4 trials.

Objective:

Students will be able explain the following by the end of the  lesson today:

  • Branches of science.
  • Difference between scientific laws and scientific theories.
  • Lab Safety
  • Setting up an experiment

Life Connection:

Students can use this information when solving problems in their lives.

Behavioral Norms:

  • Learn from mistakes
  • Tolerance
  • Participate
  • Personal electronics only when appropriate

Agenda:

Task #1 –

I want to make sure we don’t have any gaps in our knowledge before we take our assessment for Unit 1. Today when you walk in you will find the desks are broken into 3 groups. Chose a group of individuals you can work effectively with. Each group is responsible for a section of the review. You will have 10 minutes to divide up the work in your group and get individual tasks accomplished.

 Task #2 –

After the 10 minutes is up each group will use the smart board to share out their answers and help everyone see what is the most important information on each page. I will provide highlighters for all.

 

Task #3 –

In your groups we will be playing a review game of Jeopardy! I will be giving you whiteboards and 30 seconds a question. We will have one student volunteer be our score keeper and another student volunteer be our timer.

Task #4 –

Now we will be doing another style of a review game. You will still work in teams, but this time the style of the game will be different.

Ticket Out the Door:

At the end of today’s lesson I will be passing out Post-It notes. On the Post-It note you receive write down the most interesting thing you learned today  and the most confusing thing you heard and put it on the inside of the classroom door as you leave today.

  • Unit Final Review (starts on Pg. 95)

If you have any work above is not completed it needs to be finished by the next session. We are going to test at the beginning of our next meeting.
