Serial Killers

Unit S.M.A.R.T. Goals:

  1. Students will be able to behaviorally analyze a killer without teacher’s assistance with 80% accuracy in 4 of 5 trials by completion of the unit.
  2. Articulate the prevalence and patterns of forms of serial homicide over time.
  3. Apply and contrast the main criminological theories used to explain serial homicide and speak to the respective empirical validity of each as applied to this rare form of criminal offending.
  4. Articulate the strategies of investigation and crime scene analysis used in the used in the investigation and prosecution of serial offenders.

Today’s Objective:

Students will finish writing an academic essay on serial killers, utilizing  Dr. Aamodt’s work, to build up their writing skills and knowledge.

Students will demonstrate knowledge proficiency of Dr. Aamodt’s work.

Students will develop deeper level thinking questions regarding the material in order to encourage others to critically think about the information.

Task #1 Dr. Aamodt Student Report (If you have not completed)

Utilizing the Dr. Aamodt presentation on Serial Killers students will be writing a five paragraph academic research report utilizing the format below. This assignment will be worth 200 points. All students have a copy of this presentation. If anyone lost theirs there are extras on my desk. The focus of this paper is to report on what serial killers are and do.

Task #2 – Comprehension Check (If you have not completed)

Task #3 – Costa’s Questions Development

You will write 25 level 3 Costa’s questions based on Dr. Aamodt’s work. The purpose of this is for you to develop deeper level critical thinking questions. If you still have computer access you can write these electronically and share them to If you do not have computer access you need to write them out by hand. Either way you need to remember to underline the stem and the word you use from the word pool.
