Unit S.M.A.R.T. Goal:
Students will assist in determining the best legal course of action to help lower the juvenile re-incarceration rate.
Students shall be utilizing Costa’s Levels of questioning to continue further analyzing Kenneth’s case before defining and describing how other countries have established their juvenile justice systems with the goal of lowering the recidivism rate of their offenders that are minors. Time permitting today we will also be appraising the value of each of these systems.

Task #1 –
Today we are going to continue to analyze the juvenile justice problem and how other nations attempt to lower their juvenile crime. If you were gone yesterday, download, save, and share the Cornell Note document below. I have already set it up to help you figure out how to space out your notes. The documentary you are going to watch will be looking at the following nations: USA, BRAZIL, ENGLAND, MONGOLIA, GEORGIA, PHILIPPINES.

Task #3 –
With our Cornell notes available from Task #1 on other countries juvenile justice systems, we are once again going to write four Costa’s Level 3 style questions, but this time about juvenile justice systems from around the world. Create a Google doc entitled “Period # – Your Name – Juvenile Justice Systems from Around the World.”
Task #4 –
After we finish working with our Costa’s Level questions you are going to write a five paragraph essay on juvenile justice systems. Create a google doc entitled “Period # – Your Name – Juvenile Justice Systems Essay”. Use the format below for assistance:
Paragraph 1 – Introduction to the topic, the issues, and the countries you will be discussing (USA, Brazil, England, Mongolia, Georgia, Philippines).
Paragraph 2 – Which countries do you think are the most effective with juvenile justice? Why?
Paragraph 3 – Which countries do you think are the least effective with juvenile justice? Why?
Paragraph 4 – No one country has the perfect answer, explain what method you think would be the most effective in lowering the amount of juvenile offenders and why you feel it would work the best.
Paragraph 5 – Explain to the reader why juvenile justice is an important topic and why governments should be focused on lowering the amount of juvenile offenders.
