There will be no warm up today.
Task #1 –
Today we are going to watch a documentary on the Los Zetas Cartel that is focused on a man that joined them at a young age. Download, save, and share the Cornell Note Document below. You will be taking notes on the video as you watch it. We will be taking a quiz on this information Tuesday.

We are going to look at another juvenile who ended up becoming involved with organized crime. Before we can continue on to our activity we need to get familiar with this case. The links below will give you access to the case of Kenneth Young. You will download, save, and share the Cornell Notes file below.

After we have finished viewing the film I want you to answer the discussion questions below on a google .doc entitled “Kenneth Young Video Reaction – Period 3 – Your Name”:
1)If you could ask anyone in the film a single question, who would it be and what would you want to know?
2)What did you learn from this film? What insights did it provide?
3)If a friend asked you what this film was about, what would you say?
4)Describe a moment or scene in the film that you found particularly disturbing or moving. What was it about that scene that was especially compelling for you?
In light of what you learned about Kenneth’s case, in what ways do you think these current policies serve the public interest? Answer these question in the same google doc as Task #2:
1)Trying juveniles as adults
2)Sentencing juveniles to life without possibility of parole
3)Incarcerating youth in adult facilities
4)Placing juveniles in solitary confinement because adult prisons have no other way to protect them from older inmates
5)Denying juveniles serving life sentences access to educational opportunities because they are deemed a waste of resources for people who will never be released
