Reasonable Doubt

Objective:

Students will learn how to determine what reasonable doubt is as well as create it.

Agenda:

Task #1 –

Set up your paper for Cornell notes.

Task #2-

Determine the essential question for today.

Task #3-

Write the essential question on your paper. Student’s figured it out to be “How do you determine what reasonable doubt is as well as create it?”

Task #4 –

Today we will be practicing a new technique. Now that we have Cornell paper set up and an essential question developed we are going to look at a video entitled 12 Angry Men. We are not going to take notes on the video itself. Instead we are going to take notes on information we have derived from watching the video. We will use these notes to answer our essential question.

Example:

Scene 2 – juror members are complaining about all the yacking that lawyers do in court.

Note about Reasonable Doubt: “Make sure when you are speaking about reasonable doubt you make it clear, simple, and short.”

Work Evidence:

Key notes from today about reasonable doubt:

1. “Make sure when you are speaking about reasonable doubt you make it clear, simple, and short.”

2. “Make sure to briefly state evidence”

3. “Always refocus to the present. Use reasonable doubt as evidence to address past problems.”

4. “Make sure to address past problems with the defendant in opening and closing arguments” – think about the last rap battle scene in 8-Mile when Eminem brings up all the material that could hurt him before his oppenent does.
