Task #1 (Review of Homicide and Murder/Manslaughter)

Today is an extension of yesterday’s lesson plan. Yesterday we did not get all the way through our review.

We are going to review the basics of Homicide investigation and the differences between murder/ manslaughter. I will post the notes to this website once we have gone through them as the activities and answers are in the same files. If you would like to take digital notes a Cornell Notes template is below. If you would like to take physical Cornell notes today that is fine too.

Step #2 – Activity Prep

You may work in pairs, but each student must turn in their own work. We will be looking back at a mock crime scene sketch (#3 from Crime Scene Profiling Activity). Then in pairs I want you to look at the crime scene objectively yourself and answer the following questions:

  1. – What location is the crime scene at?
  2. – What method was used to commit the homicide?
  3. – Were there any witnesses?
  4. – How many victims?
  5. – What direction are the body/bodies facing?
  6. – What evidence would you collect at the scene?
  7. – Did the event appear to be planned?
  8. – Based on the evidence only, what actions do you think the suspect took?
  9. – Provide a profile of the person law enforcement should be looking for.
