Unit S.M.A.R.T. Goal:
Students will assist in determining the best legal course of action to help lower the juvenile re-incarceration rate.
Students shall be utilizing Costa’s Levels of questioning to continue further analyzing Kenneth’s case before defining and describing how other countries have established their juvenile justice systems with the goal of lowering the recidivism rate of their offenders that are minors. Time permitting today we will also be appraising the value of each of these systems.

Task #1 –
Now that we are finished gathering evidence on Kenneth Young’s case and completed the discussion questions regarding the case. Let us take a look at the public’s reaction to the judge’s re sentencing.

Once we have gotten to 20 responses total, I want you to answer the two debrief questions below on the same google doc from Task #4
1.What did you notice about people’s reactions to Kenneth’s trial?
2.How many people were for him vs against him?
Using your Cornell notes on Kenneth Young I want you to develop four Level 3 Costa’s Questions about Kenneth Young. In this task you are just developing questions about his case that make someone think. You are not answering these questions. Just developing. Below is a guide to writing a Costa’s Level 3 question. You are going to create a google doc, save, and share it to MrTylersLessons@gmail.com and title it “Kenneth Young – Costa’s Questions – Period 3 – Your Name”. It is extremely important you put your name in the title if you do not your work may not get credited to you!
The next step for us to be really able to analyze the juvenile justice problem is to look at how other nations attempt to lower juvenile crime. Download, save, and share the Cornell Note document below. I have already set it up to help you figure out how to space out your notes. The documentary you are going to watch will be looking at the following nations: USA, BRAZIL, ENGLAND, MONGOLIA, GEORGIA, PHILIPPINES. Once you have set up your Cornell Notes click on the video link below to be taken to the google folder where the video is held. You may be asked to download the video to your Chromebook to be able to view it. If for whatever reason the video does not work, use the internet to see how the nations above have addressed their juvenile offender problems.
