Steps in a Jury Trial

Warm Up

I am going to suspend the Warm Up for today to make room for trial prep.

Task #1

First thing we need to do is finish our Practice Trial Break Down Activity. We ran out of time yesterday and looks like we will need another 15 minutes to finish. When you come in today you will notice that the posters and markers from yesterday have been put where I know that they were last worked on. Once we have verified we are ready to switch we will once again use the countdown timer to pace ourselves.

Task #2

Once all posters are done they will be collected and we will move desks back into our normal trial prep groups depicted below.

Task #3

After we are all settled back into our groups I will be passing out the posters to each group for their review. Using these posters you need to determine how better to prep for your real trial on Monday. By the end of class today your team should have shared the following files to me and everyone else on your team:

File #1 – Case # – Side – Mission Statement, Goals, and Objectives

File #2 – Case # – Side – Opening Argument

File #3 – Case # – Side –  Direct questions towards witnesses with answers

File #4 – Case # – Side – ReCross/ReDirect Questions for Witnesses with answers (list what questions you want to ask of the opposing sides witnesses)

File #5 – Case # – Side – Witness Prep Work (Witnesses you need to prep notes on who you are what you saw/did.)

File #6 – Case #  – Side – Closing Argument.

It is important that these files be shared with your team members so that they can cover the roll if you are gone.

2. On a scale of 0% to 100% did we meet our objective for today? 100% means you believe we absolutely hit the objective.

3. By percentage, how much of today do you feel was “active learning” vs “passive learning”? You answer must total 100%.
