Juvenile Criminal Offenders – Juvenile Justice Systems from around the world.

Unit:

Juvenile Offenders

Unit S.M.A.R.T. Goal:

Student’s knowledge level of the U.S. juvenile justice system, in addition to that of other countries will increase by 70% by the end of this unit. Success will be determined by comparing students end of unit assessment results against those given at the beginning of the unit.

Today’s Objective:

Students will continue to learn how to define and describe how other countries have established their juvenile justice systems with the goal of lowering the recidivism rate of their offenders that are minors. Time permitting today we will also be appraising the value of each of these systems.

C.C.S.S. Standards:

RH 11-12.6 – Evaluate authors’ differing points of view on the same historical event or issue by assessing the authors’ claims, reasoning, and evidence.

WHST 11-12.4 – Produce clear and coherent writing in which the development, organization, and style are appropriate to task, purpose, and audience.

Agenda:

Warm Up

Since I will be with Mr. Nelson and other leadership teachers up in the top of “A” building today there will not be a warm up.

Task #1 (90 minutes)

You will have today to write your five paragraph essay on the juvenile justice system. This essay is based on the information you saw in the documentary from Friday (3-4-2016). I posted a link to the video below for reference. If you have not already create a google doc entitled “Juvenile Justice Systems Essay – Period 3 – Your Name”. Use the format below for assistance. I will not accept any late papers. This essay is due before you leave the room today no exceptions. If you run into any problems e-mail me at MrTylersLessons@gmail.com

Paragraph 1 –

Introduction to the topic, the issues, and the countries you will be discussing (USA, Brazil, England, Mongolia, Georgia, Philippines).

Paragraph 2 –

Which countries do you think are the most effective with juvenile justice? Why? Refer to the Pro/Con chart we all made yesterday for help on this part. Click HERE to VIEW the chart.

Paragraph 3 –

Which countries do you think are the least effective with juvenile justice? Why? Refer to the Pro/Con chart we all made yesterday for help on this part. Click HERE to VIEW the chart.

Paragraph 4 –

No one country has the perfect answer, explain what method you think would be the most effective in lowering the amount of  juvenile offenders and why you feel it would work the best.

Paragraph 5 –

Explain to the reader why juvenile justice is an important topic and why governments should be focused on lowering the amount of juvenile offenders.
