Introduction to Organized Crime Unit
Unit S.M.A.R.T. Goal:
At the end of this unit students have stated they will understand how structured criminal organizations originated, remain in power, how they are affiliated, strategies they implement, and how dangerous each is. Additionally, students have stated they will have developed the following skills: reading, analysis, observation, and identification. Success will be measured by four specific student developed goal oriented objectives they have designed to measure success culminating in a student developed summative project at the end of this unit.

Warm Up – (5 minutes)

Task #1 – (40 minutes)
With your mission statements, goals, and objectives in mind finish writing your common google document for your team entitled “Prison Problem E-mail – Period 3 -( Your Group Members First Names). This be your rough draft e-mail before you actually send it. Once your team feels like they are ready to send it e-mail the person who you felt would best listen to your e-mail. You are going to take a screen shot of your e-mail after you send it and then share it to me. This will be proof of your completion of this assignment.
Task #2 – (10 minutes)
Click/Tap on the image above. It breaks down the primary criminal organizations that the FBI is focusing on. What do you notice? One observation you should have is that these mafias break down into smaller organizations that support them. Why do you think they all work together? Let us borrow an activity from Economics teachers to examine this phenomenon more closely.
