Steps in a Jury Trial

Agenda:

Warm Up 

I am going to skip the warm up for today to make room for the trials.

Task #1 – Set Up for Trial of People v Jackson (10 minutes)

The room has already been prepared for trial. Team #2 will be going first this time since Team #1 had to go first last time.

Team #2 –

Take your seats at your desks and get ready for trial. Open any documents you think you will need. Remember you will not be allowed a computer at the speaking podium.

Team #1 – 

You will be the jury for the trial. Download the two files below. One is the criteria for each roll in mock trial the other is your assignment as jury members.

Task #2 – Trial of People v Jackson (30 minutes)

The trial of the People v Jackson will now take place and be recorded for grading purposes. If everything goes well it should take about 30 minutes.

Task #3 – Set Up for Trial of People v McGrew (10 minutes)

Team #2 –

You will now become the jury for this trial and team #1 will proceed with their trial. Download the two files below. One is the criteria for each roll in mock trial the other is your assignment as jury members.

Team #1 – 

Take your seats at your respective tables and prepare for court. Remember you can use your computers are your tables, but not at the speaking podium.

Task #4 – Trial of People v McGrew (30 minutes)

The trial of the People v McGrew will now take place and be recorded for grading purposes. If everything goes well it should take about 30 minutes.

Task #5 – Results (5 minutes)

I will now add up the different results for the juries and the scores will tell us which teams won their trials today.

Task #6 – Preparing for the next trial (10 minutes)

Read over the two cases below and decide which roll you would like in the next case and then sign up for your roll. Remember on the sign up sheet you need to say what witness you want to be.

To VIEW the sign up sheet click HERE. To sign up for a roll check your e-mail and use the link e-mailed to you to actually sign up. Remember we may need people to sign up for multiple roles in a trial. If you fail to sign up you will be assigned a roll or roles.
