Juvenile Criminal Offenders – Kenneth’s Case Online
Unit S.M.A.R.T. Goal:
Student’s knowledge level of the U.S. juvenile justice system, in addition to that of other countries will increase by 70% by the end of this unit. Success will be determined by comparing students end of unit assessment results against those given at the beginning of the unit. Previous criminal behavior course grade data indicates student knowledge level of the subject gains at minimum a 60% increase in understanding.

Students will read through Costa’s Level 3 questions proposed to them through a discussion board of Mr. Tyler’s creation to in a continued effort to analyze Kenneth Young’s case and compose an educated position on several aspects of Juvenile Justice that are currently being debated during the presidential race in 2015.

Teacher’s Note -> Today period 2 will be testing the feasibility of using an online discussion forum with a specific thread whereas period 3 will having a guest speaker from the Forensic Science department at U.C. Davis. This is due to the fact that she could only make it today to visit period 3. If she can I will have her come back another time to visit period 2.

Today we will be practicing using an online discussion board and threads to state our opinions on aspects of the juvenile justice system that are currently under debate during the presidential race through the viewing lens of analyzing Kenneth Young’s case.
Task #2 – Once you arrive at the site click on the “P2Fall2015CriminalBehavior” discussion board click on “P2 Kenneth Young’s Case Analysis”.
Task #3 – Here you will find seven discussion threads. I want you to read through each prompt and answer the questions in a direct manner.
Task #4 – After everyone has finished we will have a class discussion on the questions.
