Period 1 – Criminal Behavior Lesson Plan (10-2-2014)

Criminal Behavior HeaderTopic:

Organized Crime

Students will be introduced to the Mexican Drug Cartels first. This is due to the amount of interest shown in them based on yesterday’s physical and online Ticket Out the Door responses. We will be looking at maps and information from the D.E.A. Students will practice Cornell Notes and critically thinking about today’s material with a writing exercise at the end of today’s lesson.

Task #1 – The map below is the most recent one developed by the C.I.A. (Central Intelligence Agency) showing the Mexican Drugs Cartels importing drugs into Mexico and then shipping them into the United States. Look at this map. What information can we learn from it? What inferences can you make from looking at this?

Task #2- Now we are going to practice some Cornell Style notes. I will be showing you the presenation below that as developed by the D.E.A. (Drug Enforcement Agency) and we will be practicing breaking down the material on the sides and condensing it to what we really need. We will not be going over all the information in this presentation, but if you would like to read more the full presentation is here for you.

Task #3- Writing assignment – Now that you have an introduction to what the Mexican Cartels are and what the international problem is I have a question for you to answer with a four sentence academic format style answer (1 claim and 3 pieces of supportive evidence). How can the United States help fight the War on Drugs in Mexico?

Look over the material that was presented in class today. At the end of this unit we will be doing a rather large project that combines all our newly acquired knowledge about organized crime!
