Students will gain a fundamental understanding of organized crime mentality, language, and services.
Task #1 – Formal pretest and introduction to Organized Crime. Rather than post all the instructions here today I have made a PDF file for you to download.
Teacher’s Note – One of today’s activities was to have students write a brief fictional story using their newly learned organized crime slang. When everyone finished I quickly read them out loud (without mentioning whose story was whose) and had the students vote on the one they liked the most. One student, Arturo M, wrote a hilarious story that got a whopping 21 out of 27 votes for best story. Here is a digital copy if you want to read it: Fluffian Mafia by Arturo M
Ticket out the Door:
Go to m.socrative.com, type in room name “a89559b4″, then type in your first name and last initial. Answer the questions that follow and hit “submit”. Then log out. Today’s teacher question: ” Of the mafias you have been briefly introduced to today, which do you think would be the most interesting to learn more about?”
Go ahead and relax tonight for my class. Tomorrow we will go into our first organization for this unit.
WHST 11-12.4 – Produce clear and coherent writing in which the development, organization, and style are appropriate to task, purpose, and audience.
