TEACHING AGENDA –

Today we began by taking a quiz on the  three key Economic questions that society has to answer. This was followed by looking at and comparing the various economic systems that were developed to answer these three key questions. Additionally, we looked at new technology and old and how it can and did impact the U.S. work force. For example as a class we talked about the new machines being used by Reb Robin in Woodland,CA and Applebees in Stockton, CA that are allowing employers to cut back on staff because they dont need as many waiters or waitresses since customers can input what they want into the table computer and also pay their bills at their table instead of waiting for the bill to arrive.

HOMEWORK – Remember to study the four different types of Economies. You will be having a quiz on them on Monday (3-31-2014)

TEACHING AGENDA –

In the beginning of class students looked at four video clips (3 from The Untouchables and 1 from Goodfellas). Then students wrote down five observations they saw about common behavior patterns of mob members in each clip.  After this students formed teams and did their best to define “organized crime” and “mafia”. This was followed by comparing and contrasting the terms. Students answered six questions total at this stage. Following this as a team students competed to define nine mob terms to the best of their ability. We then discussed the terms as a class. After this students stayed in their groups to make up a fictional mafia and structure it appropriately. The detailed instructions for today can be found under “Student Resources” in the PDF file “Activity Directions”.
