TEACHING OBJECTIVE – Students will continue to exam the differences between the various economic systems. Today we will be paying specific attention to the pros and cons of the free market system.

TEACHING AGENDA –

Student’s were quizzed on the four different types of economic systems. We then reviewed concepts discussed last week. Following this we discussed the term “specialization” and its pros and  cons. Students were introduced to some of the con sides of a free market or mixed market economy with video clips from the film “Food Inc”.

HOMEWORK – Review the material today for a quiz tomorrow morning.

Today student’s continued on with the activity that we began on Friday. Students formed groups and then the groups each sent their leader to try and negotiate with the others for what group would control which piece of Stockton. The leaders quickly discovered that there would be a lot of competition and that the only way for them to survive is to work together.

TEACHING AGENDA –

Today we began by taking a quiz on the  three key Economic questions that society has to answer. This was followed by looking at and comparing the various economic systems that were developed to answer these three key questions. Additionally, we looked at new technology and old and how it can and did impact the U.S. work force. For example as a class we talked about the new machines being used by Reb Robin in Woodland,CA and Applebees in Stockton, CA that are allowing employers to cut back on staff because they dont need as many waiters or waitresses since customers can input what they want into the table computer and also pay their bills at their table instead of waiting for the bill to arrive.

HOMEWORK – Remember to study the four different types of Economies. You will be having a quiz on them on Monday (3-31-2014)

TEACHING OBJECTIVE – Students will gain a basic understanding of mob life, mentality, and terminology.

TEACHING AGENDA –

In the beginning of class students looked at four video clips (3 from The Untouchables and 1 from Goodfellas). Then students wrote down five observations they saw about common behavior patterns of mob members in each clip.  After this students formed teams and did their best to define “organized crime” and “mafia”. This was followed by comparing and contrasting the terms. Students answered six questions total at this stage. Following this as a team students competed to define nine mob terms to the best of their ability. We then discussed the terms as a class. After this students stayed in their groups to make up a fictional mafia and structure it appropriately. The detailed instructions for today can be found under “Student Resources” in the PDF file “Activity Directions”.

HOMEWORK – Review the sheet you created today with the basic terminology used by the Mafia.

Today we took a couple quizzes on CH 1 to check for student comprehension. Then we moved on to looking into CH 2 – Economic Systems. When we looked over the three key economic questions I told students they were going to set  up a pizza restaurant. I asked them where in their home town would they put it and why. This helped students to realize they already know how to think like Economists and be able to answer these three key Economic questions.

HOMEWORK – Review the material for today. You may want to look over the CH 2 presentation tonight if you want to get ahead.

TEACHING OBJECTIVE – Students will wrap up mock trial for the student created scenario and vote on what topic they want to cover next.

TEACHING AGENDA –

Today I had student rotate through the different positions in court and do mini mock trials in groups. The positions in each group were: Judge, Defendant, Defense, and Prosecution. Each role had its own job. The results of the two classes verdicts can be found below. After this students filled out and gave me secret ballots as to what topic they wanted me to teach them next in Criminal Behavior. Both periods 2 & 3 choose “The Mafia” by majority vote.

HOMEWORK – Relax for a night as we transition to our new student voted topic of “The Mafia”.
